Professional Development
Here are some notable professional development activities that I participated in during the 2007-2008 school year:
September 2007 - CenterStage Science
CenterStage activities and experiments encourage students to work collaborately while building knowledge and skills essential to successful performance on standardized tests. In this training, I learned new ways to teach physical science objectives and received exciting science materials to implement in our classroom. Topics covered include: physical properties of objects, classification of objects, density and mass, states of matter, motion and position, sounds, how light travels, primary and secondary colors, and more!

October 2007 - Every day Counts Partner Games
Every Day Counts Partner Games offers 20 simple yet effective games for learning, reviewing and practicing key number concepts and is aligned with NCTM and state standards.
October 2007 - Instructional Strategies Coaches Fall Training

October 2007 - Every Day Counts Calendar Math
I attended this training to learn more about Every Day Counts, a research based program aligned with NCTM standards. I was extremely impressed by this efficient system for teaching math concepts: in just 10-15 minutes each day, Every Day Counts provides daily exposure to place value, mental math, measurement, time, money, geometry, estimation, patterns and algebraic thinking, graphing, and statistics. I have used this program as a part of our daily morning routine and it has offered my students repeated practice with all first grade math skills.
November 2007 - Gifted and Talented Certification

January 2008 - Instructional Strategies Coaches Spring Training
